We will help you find your healthy self again.

We will formulate your unique, holistic, safe, and scientifically proven plan.

We will help you solve your forever changing and evolving weight puzzle.

We will engage an experienced GP, a supportive pharmacist, a nutritional dietitian, a clinical psychologist, and an exercise physiologist to address all the pieces of the puzzle. Including the latest injectable options if appropriate.

We know it is a sensitive subject but we want you to know the facts.

  1. In Australia, 2 out of 3 adults and 1 in 4 children are living with obesity or are overweight. Experts predict that by 2025, more than 3 in 4 Australian adults will be either overweight or living with obesity.
  2. At any point in time, 60% of us are thinking about weight and 90% are failing to achieve our goal.
  3. A visible sign of obesity is excess body fat, usually measured by body mass index (BMI). A more important sign of obesity is:  tiredness, lack of energy, shortness of breath when you run, and it is those sore knees and hips you may experience.
  4. Losing 10% of weight can significantly improve your health.

The Reasons why we gain weight

Many things can cause weight gain. The cruel feature of obesity is that it happens gradually and slowly by taking in more energy than your body needs over time. Foods and drinks contain energy (measured in kilojoules), which your body uses, especially during physical activity. The average adult needs 8700 kJ each day. Any extra energy you consume is stored as body fat. Your fat cells then enlarge.

Obesity can also happen because of factors outside of your control, such as:

  • Your family history — the habits you grew up with and the genes you got from your parents.
  • Your surroundings — what kinds of food are available and in what portions, and where you work and sleep.
  • your metabolism — how efficiently your body turns food into energy which constantly changes over your life
  • certain medical conditions that cause weight gain — such as hypothyroidism
  • certain medicines that cause weight gain as a side effect — such as some antipsychotic medicines.

What can I do to manage obesity?

Here are some steps that you can take to help reduce the likelihood of obesity:

  • Eat for nutrition: Review how much high-energy, low-nutrition snack foods and sugary drinks you have, including juice, soft drink and flavoured milk. Consider how often you get takeaway.
  • Do physical activity that makes you smile: Only half of Australians do enough physical activity for good health.
  • Limit alcohol and other high calorie beverages: Review how much alcohol you drink — alcohol has many kilojoules with no nutritional benefits.

Stress, low mood, poor-quality sleep, changing emotions and poor access to healthy food can all cause people to take in more kilojoules than they need. Think about what you are eating and drinking and ask yourself to be accountable. Why am I doing this?

To us, this problem is like a thousand piece puzzle, that changes with your circumstances. It is hard enough putting all the pieces together, but then the puzzle changes on you and you have to start again. Let us help you solve this puzzle together.
